The Producers

Uggiano

It’s interesting how the world of enology, especially in Italy, tends to rotate more often around the idea of a family-run business, linked to an inheritance handed down from generation to generation. We are not always lucky enough to be born with a company in our hands. When this doesn’t happen but there’s passion and competence, the only thing one can do is to roll up his sleeves and get down to work.

The Uggiano winery was founded in 1976 by the common passion of a group of entrepreneurs from Bergamo, determined to make of wine, as well as a hobby, also a paying job. Enthusiasts of Tuscan wines and guided by the expertise of the oenologist Giuseppe Losapio, they settled in San Vincenzo a Torri, a charming village in the Florentine hills.

Uggiano's strength lies in the carefully selected staff: with the founding winemaker, in fact, today there are three historical collaborators, grown up with Uggiano, each with a dedicated work branch. Fabio Martelli manages the administrative / financial aspect of the company with precision and experience, Daniele Prosperi directs the production with natural talent and an important curriculum and Giacomo Fossati plays the role of exports & sales manager with a deep understanding of people and markets.
The company produces several product lines; we have chosen to propose you Roccialta, which with a selection of 4 Chianti of the highest level perfectly narrates the potential of the Florentine Hills and the victory of Uggiano.

“Roccialta” Chianti

  • Grape variety: Canaiolo, Sangiovese
  • Appellation: Chianti DOCG
  • Color: Red
  • Type: Still
  • Country / Region: Italy/Toscana
  • Soil: medium mixture
  • Harvest: mid-September
Vinification:

after a soft pressing, the must is subjected to alcoholic fermentation with maceration in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature between 26-28 ° C, with repeated movements to facilitate the contact between must and skins. Tasting note:

this wine is of a bright ruby red color, characterized by a persistent and fruity bouquet, with hints of black cherry and strawberry grapes and a slight vegetable hint. When drunk young it is characterized by a delicate tannicity, which softens over time giving life to a round and velvety wine. The palate is clean and elegant, with a harmonious and pleasant aftertaste. The lively acidity contributes to its balance.

Aging potential:

medium low. A wine to be drunk young for the freshness of its aromas.
